Every Job Seeker

While some of us may have a job, there are others who are still waking up unemployed.  This is scary, it really is- especially with the cost of living nowadays.  What’s worse is the fact that most people who have an hourly job don’t want it.  Just last night, I had an eye opening conversation with my personal photographer, Sergio:

“You see, that’s the problem of today’s world. Some people study for a degree they don’t like that pays the money they want. But once they get that job, they’re not happy with it. Forty years later, they retire wishing they used their life for something they DID want. We have to stop doing that.”

Where does this leave the complicated, unhappy, and unemployed? Job Seeking, or Career Confused.  Here’s a few tips that I talk about when I am asked to speak to college students or high school students who are about to choose a Major (and believe me, having a clear path at a younger age gives a massively better future).

  • Remember those talents you have that make you smile when you try harder to perfect? That’s you key right there.  People that lose their job or get written up more is due to the fact that they don’t want to be there, they lack the desire to make their workplace better.  Then again, they don’t want to be there- so why try?  Find something that allows you to do what you love, even if it’s just for 10 minutes- you’ll want to go into work, want to make a better impression, and enjoy every shift instead of wishing it was over.
  • Replace 2 out of your 5 closest friends with new friends that are curious of your goals and dreams. Take note of this– Every time I asked a student or college graduate seeking a Career, I gave them this advice.  At first, it seemed difficult, with replies like, “But they’ve been there for years!” or “They’re already the sad type, asking them not to hangout with me would only make them feel worse.” The truth is, we all have one positive friend somewhere out there that cares about us having a better future.  Usually, they are not our closest friend- and they should be.  Think about it like you best counselor you never had with conversations about a better future, a stronger person, giving back to your community.  The closest friends I have are big dreamers- they have goals to pay off their family’s home, own their first car, want to have a six-figure income before they get a degree so they can go straight into graduate school without a worry of money, and I am letting you know from experience- it made me a better person and actually allowed me to help the negative friends I used to have. Help yourself by surrounding yourself with the right people.
  • Start a home business that has something with a goal. I know this sounds crazy, but a home business IS employment.  Self-employment has a totally new meaning and responsibility.  Forget about starting off minimum wage and climbing over the years to get to the top- You are now AT the top, but you decide how far you will go in terms of income.  Now before you think this is a recruitment strategy to join my home business, it’s not.  My home business has helped pay off massive debt, college expenses, brought food onto the table for many families, has successfully expanded worldwide.  This means that there is a procedure that involves an interview to see if someone is fit to be onboard.  Some people are, some are not.  Think about it like this: if you want to be in a home business, look for someone that has a great track record, they’ve been successful and are still aiming for bigger goals.  You want someone who has a taste of success and is hungry for more- not someone who says, “Let’s get rich quick!” because that’s always a lie, and there is no such thing.  Go into a team that has great, positive impacts in the community as well as in their home: my team is devoted to health and fitness.  Some of us never exercised until the doctor diagnosed us with diabetes or risk of heart failure.  Others were already in shape and wanted to take it to the next level- professional bodybuilding contests.  You see, already you can tell that individuals who email me with no desire to be healthy and fit would not make a good member.  They might be more interested in another company that involves other goals.  Just remember this- The only promised success is the one of your own body and health.  If you work on it consistently, it will always get better.  My business pays you for that 😉

Those are three big tips I give to those seeking a job or Career.  Many people wonder why I push home business as part of my speeches and the reason is a fact: There are people out there who’s Career IS self-employment.  Personally, I cannot deal with getting paid for someone giving me a to-do list that is something as simple as cleaning off the dust from DVD’s and wiping down windows (what I used to do at my old job many, MANY times).  It has no way of helping my life and adds no value once or ever.

Keep up with your talents, replace a couple of friends with two that would love to know how you’re going to change your life for the better, and give a home business a chance.  If you can’t seem to find a job, create your own career!
